I've been spending my time split between a few different new game concepts. So this evening I fired them up, checked out where I last left off with each, and decided which one to pursue for my challenge (did a little research as well).
At the end of the first day, I have this to show:
Amazing huh? It may not look like much, but I'm actually really excited about this game. The concept is that it's a game meant for tablets where you lay your device down in the middle of a table and players sit around it, looking at the screen.
It's meant to be played as a group of 2-8 players (maybe more?) and is a drinking game. Putting the tablet down in the middle of the table allows for some fun social interaction because people are face to face, making the game almost secondary to everything going on. But it's still going to be a blast!
As for what I did for development today:
- Determined which project to continue: I have 3 ideas I want to pursue, but the other two require another person to do the art for me and I want to focus on something I know I can do myself. No need to complicate!
- Finalized Layout: I had left my project sitting with only a couple of these little boxes in place. I took the time tonight to do some graph paper sketching and layout the rest of the main game screen, which I've laid out above.
- Familiarized Myself with More Basic Functions: I'm incredibly new to programming. Everything I have out has just been cobbled together with "if" & "else" statements. This project (I think at least) will require heavy use of "while" and "for" loops, as well as arrays.
So I think this is going to be my project! I've got the basics fleshed-out, but the next few days will probably have to be some notebook planning and back-end work so I can wrap my head around making all of this. Not super exciting in terms of blog posts/photos, but there will be updates!
