What's the fitness challenge? Check out my intro post here.
Made it 1 week, just about 7 more to go! Also, I realize I suck at actually posting these daily (have been in the habit of being a day late, or trying for two a day) even though I'm doing the work. Will do my best to get better about getting something out each evening!
Today I did some more testing and made some more slight adjustments to add to the randomness engine. In my last post, I mentioned how my first method of randomized selections heavily favored the 3rd option, getting about 45% of the total selections (with options 1 & 2 getting 28% & 27%, respectively). This just wasn't going to work. A key feature of this game is the anticipation of random selection and never knowing where the game will land!
After re-running my tests with a new randomization factor thrown-in, I have a brand new swanky pie-chart for you! Drumroll please......
BOOOOOO! YOU SUCK AT PROGRAMMING!
First, to the audience I just created in my head, that's not very nice. Second, this is still kind of interesting! With the simple tweak I made last time, I managed to increase the selection rate of option 1, but at the expense of option (cell) 2. I also increased selection rate on option 3. Harumph.... Looks like it's back to the drawing board!
Other setbacks:
As for another random setback, my excitement over making some upgrades to my old Macbook in addition to running windows is officially dead. Got through some initial headaches with it (due to me having an older macbook which doesn't play well with Win8) but in the end, Apple won when windows stopped booting properly after a while. I'm going to try one last effort and track down Windows 7 so I can use straightforward boot camp, but we'll see how that goes....
With that said, I'm traveling out of town this weekend (starting Thursday night) BUT THE CHALLENGE CONTINUES! I'm either packing-up my PC tower, or seeing if my wife's laptop can do what I need it to. Have most of the day to kill on Friday (and some of saturday) so hopefully will make some good strides! Worst-case scenario is I don't get to actually develop/code but there will NOT be a wasted day. At the very least
