Am I hopeful? Sure, how can someone not be? RCT & RCT2 are both very simple graphically and could likely be handled by today's powerful mobile devices. But a brief look at this first trailer and you can see how my hope has already run very thin:
This appears to be Atari's last cash grab before they take their final dying breath. A bankrupt company trying to cash-in a few years late to the mobile "pay to play", microtransaction-filled games. While in theory this could get Atari back on their feet to eventually give us a true new RCT game, It's a massive diassapointment.
Atari is seems to be aware that this is an abomination and they're letting us long-time fans down. In fact, they tweeted:
RollerCoaster Tycoon is back and it's coming to mobile! Rest assured, there is a PC experience in production now for release this year!

The way this is phrased makes me very nervous, and I don't expect anything better than a tie-in Facebook game of some kind. First Sim City's relaunch disaster, now Roller Coaster Tycoon may disappoint even further. How the greats of the sim genre has fallen...
Again, we haven't seen the final product and many details are still missing. Maybe this will be the surprise of the year. Maybe it will be a great successor to the franchise, simply RCT2 but updated for today's touchscreen mobile market with a solid free experience in addition to pay add-ons (but I highly, highly doubt it).
